Churchdown Village Infant School

Physical Education

We have PE lessons for two hours each week.  During our lessons we do gymnastics, ball skills and games, dance athletics.  As well helping us stay fit and healthy we learn how to work together in teams to problem solve and understand the importance of fair play.  We also do exercises in the classroom and at playtimes.  We have a ballet video which helps develop our core-strength which we do with our teachers.  By improving our core strength we can also help our gross and fine motor skills.  At playtimes we have lots of resources which work different muscles in our bodies.  The adventure playground gives us lots of opportunities to climb, balance and swing - all useful in making us stronger.  Our PE curriculum promotes not only a healthy body but also a healthy mindset.

Every term we do Forest School as part of our PE curriculum.  During Forest School we go exploring, build dens and climb trees.  We decide what we would like to learn about and who we are learning with, it is one of our favourite lessons in school.

In the summer term we have a Healthy Living Week followed by a Sports Week.  This supports our what we have been learning in PE all year.  During these weeks we have additional workshops which teach us different skills including yoga, mindfulness and archery.  We enjoy a whole school Big Breakfast and hold an annual Sports Day.   Our Performance Evening welcomes our families to join us for an evening of music and country dancing.
