PE and Sports Development

Sports Funding

Overview of PE Primary Sports Funding

With the Government investing in primary PE, CVIS had to look at areas of PE that would have a big impact on the children in their physical development, confidence, self-esteem and continual impact on their health and well- being. (SMSC)

The introduction of dance had a massive impact on girls in KS1 attending after school clubs, the dance teacher gave a performance to the parents at the end of each term to show what they had learnt. This had a great impact on the girls low self-esteem and confidence. The sports funding allowed us to pay for coach hire and staff costs so we could participate at the festival.

The science and PE co-ordinator met to discuss and plan healthy living week, the emphasis was all about their bodies and what contributes to a healthy body.

We used some of the sports premium money to fund the Big Breakfast where all the children we invited to have their breakfast at school from 8.30am. Every day each class had exotic fruit tasting sessions, which the children enjoyed tasting and learning about new fruits and their origin. (See Healthy Living folder for evidence)

Festivals / competitions

We always take children to the Oxstalls tennis festival in 3 teams of 4. Two of the teams qualified for the county tennis finals. We were very successful and won the Gloucestershire tennis festival cup.

We held our annual sports day and sports week which impacted on their spiritual, moral, social and cultural curriculum, by raising their confidence, self-esteem, fair play, leadership, team building, respect and resolving conflicts that arise when playing games.

Year 2 enjoyed being sports leaders at lunchtimes, they led circle games with the reception class and year 1, they also led skipping and hula hoop activities. This had a rewarding impact on the leaders by raising their self-esteem and confidence by giving them responsibility and leadership skills, they also made the activities inclusive so all the children were catered for.

We have invested in a spring board for gymnastics, which benefits gym club and is widely used during PE lessons.
